c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A large Paleolithic Mousterian (Neanderthal) flint "backed" hand sickle / blade found in the early part of the 20th Century at the famous Neanderthal site of Peyzac Le Moustier, in the Dordogne, France and from an old French lithic collection. Fashioned from an elongate wedge shaped flake of dark flint, flat underside but unifacially worked on upper face to form a sharp blade edge with further retouching on the end of the blade to enhance it, wider grip edge still with some pebbel cortex remaining to enhance the grip in use, Intact and in very nice condition with a pleasant surface patination, a good sized and pleasant hand sickle / blade from a very notable prehistoric site, 102mm long x 38mm wide x 19mm thick
