c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A large Paleolithic Mousterian (Neanderthal) "Levallois" flint discoidal knife / scraper found in the early part of the 20th Century at the famous Neanderthal site of Peyzac Le Moustier, in the Dordogne, France and from an old French lithic collection. Formed from a large mottled light and dark grey flint flake struck from a prepared flint core with further retouching along edges to further hone and sharpen them, blade edges still sharp, bifacially worked, totally intact and in very good condition with an attractive old collection patina. A much larger than usual example from a famous Paleolithic site, 80mm diameter x 23mm at thickest point
