Paleolithic period c.50,000 B.C. A large and pleasant Paleolithic Neanderthal flint backed blade / spoke shave multi-tool found in the 1950's/60's in Le Grand Pressigny, Central France and from an old French collection amassed in the 1950's/60's. A good sized Neanderthal multi-tool featuring a wide convex outer cutting / scraping blade and on the opposing side a slightly concave blade, knapped in the centre to form a spoke shave (for stripping smaller twigs and bark from wooden shafts). A very nice example in a lovely toffee / honey coloured flint, so typical of this area. Intact and in excellent condition with a light surface smoothing and a most attractive old collection surface patination, An interesting Neanderthal flint hand tool, 113mm wide x 65mm deep x 20mm thick
