Upper Paleolithic period c.50,000 B.C. A large & pleasant Paleolithic Neanderthal "Levallois" flint flake hand axe found many years back at the famous Prehistoric site of Le Grand Pressigny, Touraine, France and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. Fashioned from a large thick flint flake, bi-facially worked and retouched in places to enhance the blade edges; area of original pebble cortex left on one end which forms a gripping surface for the palm of the hand in use. A large and attractive Paleolithic Neanderthal flint flake in a lovely toffee / honey coloured flint so typical of this area.
