c.6th/7th Century A.D. A large, scarce and impressive Early Anglo Saxon Saucer brooch found many years back in Kent and from an old Kentish collection. This impressive brooch features a large 44mm diameter flan with a raised pellet border around and a central area of concentric pellet circles and a small raised boss in the centre. Most likely once gilded or silvered but now just bronze. This brooch would have been one of a matching pair and worn by a Saxon woman of status on the shoulders to secure a "Peplos" style dress. A minor portion of the flan lost in antiquity otherwise intact and in very good condition with a pleasant shiny dark green patina.
