Upper Paleolithic period c.50,000 to 30,000 B.C. A large, stunning and beautifully worked Upper Paleolithic flint hand axe found in the 1950's/60's in the Dordoigne area of France and from an old French collection amassed in the 1950's/60's. A substantial and superbly worked example in a most attractive light brown and grey banded flint. Bi-facially worked with very well defined blade edges along either side of axe and a still sharp and undamaged point. Expertly worked over its entirety with additional re-touching and pressure flaking around the perimeter of the axe resulting in almost denticulated blade edges; all edges and tip still sharp. Totally intact and in superb condition with a most attractive overall and slightly shiny old collection surface patina, a lovely and superbly worked example with a most attractive colouration, 145mm long x 68mm wide x 33mm thick
