c.1st/2nd Century A.D. A large, well detailed and very ornate terracotta bust of a Romano-Egyptian Goddess / Diety originally from an old collection, sold by C.J.Martin (Ancient Art) many years back and more recently from an Essex collection. This ornate terrcotta bust was once part of a much larger flat backed votive statuette, probably once painted with coloured pigments and intended for placing in a sacred place / home shrine for worship. The female diety has pleasant facial features and hair in ringlets around and is shown wearing a large and elaborate headdress surmounted with what appears to be a turtle, in turn with clear detail of carapace and its head pointing left. A good sized and appealing Romano-Egyptian figure featuring bold detail, small scratch on face and small chip to turtles tail otherwise intact and in very good overall condition, a nice item, approx 75mm high x 60mm wide x 25mm deep.
