c.1st-2nd Century A.D. A largely complete and rare Roman Enamelled "Trumpet" fibula brooch, found in Yorkshire and from an old Scottish collection. A nice ornate example with a wide and sturdy trumpet like head with and ornate, intricately inlaid design of green and yellow enamelling and a bulbous finial at mid point of bow. Probably once gilded or silvered but now just green patinated bronze; obviously quite a high class brooch in its time. The iron pin and spring is now missing, as is a part of the catch plate, otherwise intact and good, a decent and affordable example of a rare Enamelled Roman brooch, 39mm long x 30mm deep x 18mm wide at head, 8mm thick at mid-bow.
