c.4th-3rd Century B.C. A lovely Ancient Greek redware terracotta pedestalled Salt Bowl (Salter). From the Greek colonies in Campania, Southern Italy. An attractive salt bowl standing on a small pedestal ring base, which would have been a common site on Ancient Greek dining tables as salt was a vital and highly prized commodity. A couple of areas of minor rubbing to edge of pedestal foot plus a couple of  tiny chips to underside from its time buried in the earth (neither detracting from the vessel) otherwise totally intact and in very good condition, a pleasant example of the type, Ex Old West Country collection, 78mm diameter, 28mm high.
