c.4th-3rd Century B.C. A nice Ancient Greek black glazed terracotta pedestalled Salt Bowl (Salter) from the Greek colonies in Campania, Southern Italy. An attractive little salt bowl standing on a small pedestal base, which would have been a common site on Ancient Greek dining tables as salt was a vital and highly prized commodity at the time. Originally shiny black glazed slip ware, a majority of which still remains apart from some areas of rubbing. Excavated broken into three pieces but skillfully repaired to whole (repairs not greatly visible though) plus just a few other minor chips here and there otherwise intact and in good overall condition for its great age. A pleasant and very affordable example of the type, Ex old West Country collection, 88mm diameter, 33mm high.
