Late Palaeolithic period c.40,000 - 20,000 B.C. A nice and well defined Palaeolithic Cordate flint hand axe from Kent. Ex Kent collection. Expertly fashioned from a large white / beige coloured flint flake, flattish underside and extensively worked on upper surface to form a cordiform axe of reasonably thin section and with sharp blade edges. Upper surface nicely aged with a pleasant white patination, small natural quartz inclusion under the butt end of the underside of the axe. An appealing and still highly functional flint hand axe that fits the hand well, a nice example, 100mm long x 82mm wide x 24mm thick at butt end to c.2-3mm at blade.
