c.6th Century A.D. A nice Early AngloSaxon bronze Square headed "Small-Long" Brooch from Cambridgeshire. This brooch features the characteristic square plate at the top of the brooch, a small humped bow and a lozenge shaped plate at the base which would once have had the catchplate on the reverse side. Possibly once silvered or gilded but now merely bronze with a pleasant olive green patina. Couple of very minor knocks from its time in the earth and pin and catchplate missing otherwise intact and a pleasant example of the type, 48mm long x 19mm wide.
