c.2500-2000 B.C. A nice Neolithic flint hammerstone from Great Barton, Suffolk. Fashioned from a pleasant dark grey & black large flint cobble with its outer cortex struck away on the sides to provide shallow recesses for fingers and thumb, facilitating a better grip of the hammerstone. Original flint cortex left in situ on upper and lower faces and these are peppered all over with small impact marks from its use. A nice example of the type, 69mm long x 55mm wide x 58mm deep.
