c.80,000 - 60,000 B.C. A nice Palaeolithic Mousterian (Neanderthal) backed flint knife from Lisieux, France. Worked from a large flint flake struck from a large mottled grey flint nodule, original whitish cortex remaining on top surface, knapping on one side to form a sharp and functional blade, thicker side providing a decent area for gripping in the hand. Reverse side of knife exhibiting pronounced and attractive percussive waves. Good surface ageing and patination, a pleasant example of the type, 78mm long x 38mm wide x 15mm at thickest.
