c.1st / 2nd Century A.D. A nice quality Roman "Samian Ware" decorative glazed pottery shard found in the West Midlands many years back and from a Coventry collection. The shard is probably from the rim of an ornate and high quality bowl and would have been originally manufactured in Gaul (France). The shard features an ornate repeating swagged border design at the top with a framed geometric line decoration below. In very nice condition with good colour and nice surfaces with an attractive shiny glaze, 39mm x 41mm.
