Product Description

c. 2nd / 3rd Century A.D. A nice Roman Oval Enamelled plate brooch / fibula found many years back in Oxfordshire and from a Midlands collection. A good sized oval plate brooch with outer decorative border inset with red enamel and blue enamel at 9, 12, 3 and 6 o'clock, some of which still remains. Inner oval raised border which would once have maybe held an oval glass stone or may also have been enamelled but now lost. The brooch was also likely once silvered or gilded but plating lost through the passage of time and solely bronze. Pin missing as is usual otherwise and some enamel loss but otherwise intact and in good overall condition, a pleasant example of the type, approx. 27mm diameter x 24mm
