c.6th/7th Century A.D. A pair of ornate and scarce Early Byzantine bronze "Bractreates" (decorative appliques for garments etc). These fine bronze decoratiev discs were skillfully engraved and punched from one side to make a repousee style ornate design on the other, probably once gilded or silvered, they were applied in groups to ornate garments and head wear etc. some damage as excavated due to their delicate nature but in generally good condition for their great age. An interesting pair of Byzantine clothing related artefacts, 23mm diameter.
