c.2nd / 3rd Century A.D. A pleasant and scarce Roman Bronze "Phallic" strap-end found on farmland in Norfolk 07/09/1996 and from an old London collection. [In Roman society, Phallic symbolism was believed to bring fertility, good fortune and protection against evil]. Well defined and of solid form with a short bifurcated end and a central rivet where it would have attached to a fine strap of belt, probably once silvered or gilded but now back to bronze, totally intact and in very good condition, of good metal with decent surfaces and a dark bronze patina, a nice example of the type, 25mm long x 8mm diameter
