Late Palaeolithic period c.60,000 - 40,000 B.C. A pleasant, well defined and sizeable Palaeolithic "Mousterian" (Neanderthal) pointed flint hand axe from Kent. Ex Kent collection. Expertly fashioned from a large mottled white / beige coloured flint flake, flattish underside and extensively worked on upper surface to form a well defined axe of reasonably thin section and with sharp blade edges and good functional point, retouching to blade edges. Nicely aged with a pleasant white patination, An appealing and good sized flint hand axe that fits the hand well, a pleasant example, 130mm long x 88mm wide x 38mm thick at butt end to c.8mm at tip.
