c.7th/8th Century A.D. A pleasant and unusual early Anglo Saxon embossed bronze four way decorative mount found many years back in Kent and from a Kentish collection. A solid bronze mount with raised central boss, chip carved on the top with a rudimentary Maltese cross like design, four short peripheral arms around, each drilled to accept a small nail or rivet. Most likely once gilded and possibly one of many that were either used to adorn and elaborate wooden casket or maybe even riveted to a leather belt or strap. Totally intact and in very good condition with a nice overall brownish surface patination, A pleasant and appealing Early Saxon mount, approx.20mm x 20mm x 8mm thick, supplied in display box.
