c.1st Century B.C. A pleasant Iron Age (Celtic) bronze "Dumb-bell' shaped 'Toggle' clothing fastener, Cambridgeshire. Bulbous end terminals and raised edge collars either side of central cord groove. These toggles were held in a centrally located cord loop and pushed through a slit in garments to hold them together much in the same way buttons are used nowadays, and they are a very characteristic item found in Iron Age contexts. Totally intact and in good condition with a pleasant green patination, 18mm long x 7mm diameter
