c.300,000-200,000 B.C. A pleasant Lower Paleolithic "Acheulian" flint hand axe / chopper, Dordogne, France found in the early-mid 20th Century in Payzac in the Dordogne area of France. Expertly fashioned from a pleasant dark coloured flint with some original pebble cortex remaining on edges to enhance grip, bi-facially and well worked with a clearly defined side-edged chopping blade. From an old West Country collection, an old inked inscription on one side citing " LES FERELIES PAZAC". Intact and in very good condition with decent surfaces and a pleasant old collection ageing and patina, an excellent and affordable Lower Paleolithic hand axe / chopper, 115mm long x 86mm wide x 36mm at thickest
