c.12th-13th Century A.D. A pleasant Medieval "Cruciform" Book Clasp found in the 1990's on the foreshore of the River Thames at Putney, London and from an old collection of River Thames finds. Of elongate form with fine wrigglework engraved designs along its length and a Cross (Cruciform) shaped head at the catch end. Possibly from an early ecclesiastical book or Bible. Intact and in very good condition with an attractive light bronze tone synonymous with Bronze items found buried in the Thames silts, a pleasant example of type, 32mm long x 9mm at thickest
