c. 14th-15th Century A.D. A small but attractive Early Medieval lead Spindle Whorl found in London in the 1990's and from an old London collection. The whorl has a flat based with domed upper featuring an incised radiate design around the central opening. Hole through centre for the wooden shaft to which natural woollen fibres would be attached and the whole apparatus then spun to make woollen yarn. Intact and in very nice condition with a good ageing and patination, a pleasant example of the type, 25mm diameter x 10mm deep.
