c.12th-13th Century A.D. A pleasant Bronze Spike from a Medieval "Prick Spur" found in the 1990's on the foreshore of the River Thames at Vauxhall, London and from an old collection of River Thames finds. Of fairly typical form with a solid, quad sided conical tip with a thick solid tang below which would have once been affixed to a heel plate bracket and was commonly used by Knights on horseback. Heel plate bracket lost otherwise intact and in very good condition with an attractive light bronze tone synonymous with Bronze items found buried in the Thames silts, a decent example of type, 38mm long x 10mm at thickest
