Aterian Culture c.145,000 -30,000 BP. A pleasant Mid-Paleolithic "Aterian Culture" tanged Lozenge shaped flint projectile point excavated many years ago near Morrocco, North Africa and from a Scottish collection. [The Aterian Culture are generally attributed with producing the first tanged tools in the Paleolithic period]; This very early form of tanged projectile point is bi-facially worked from a a pleasant tan, grey and cream coloured flint, retouched to further enhance its edges and tip; the short tang would have been fixed into a wooden shaft for use. Totally intact and in very good condition with gentle surface smoothing from its time buried in the sand and an attractive surface patination, a nice example of this most early form of tanged point, 42mm long x 33mm wide x 14mm thick.
