c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A pleasant Paleolithic (Neanderthal) "Levallois" small flint spear head found many years back in the Glaziers Forge area of East Sussex and from an Sussex collection. Fashioned from a flake of beige coloured flint, worked in a typical "Levallois" tradition on a flake struck from the top of a prepared flint core with further definition added to define the spear head and refine the tip. This point would likely have been used in a small thrusting spear for hunting smaller prey at close quarters. Old inked inscription on main worked face citing "Glaziers Forge". Intact and in nice condition with a pleasant old collection patina, a decent example of its type, 53mm long x 33mm wide x 10mm thick
