c.60,000-40,000 B.C. A pleasant Paleolithic (Neanderthal) "Levallois" small flint spear head found in the early part of the 20th Century at the famous Neanderthal site of Peyzac Le Moustier, in the Dordogne, France and from an old French lithic collection. Fashioned from a flake of mottled grey coloured flint, worked in a typical "Levallois" tradition on a flake struck from the top of a prepared flint core with further definition added to define the spear head and refine the tip. This point would likely have been used in a small thrusting spear for hunting smaller prey at close quarters. Partial old inked inscription on main worked face citing "Les Fe(reli)es" an area in Peyzac Le Moustier. Intact and in nice condition with a pleasant old collection patina, a decent example of its type, 54mm long x 29mm wide x 8mm thick
