c.3rd / 4th Century A.D. A pleasant Roman bronze nail cleaner from a portable cosmetic set or chatelain, found in North Yorkshire and from an old Yorkshire collection. This nail cleaner is of fairly simple design with engraved lines side around the base of the suspension hoop but is a larger than usual example. It would have been one of several small bronze cosmetic tools attached to a single hoop and either carried or attached to and worn on a chain from the waist, in the form of a Chatelain. Totally intact and in very good condition, a still functional Roman item with a pleasant dark olive patina, 65mm long x 11mm wide.
