c.3rd / 4th Century A.D. A pleasant Roman bronze nail cleaner from a portable cosmetic set or chatelain, found in Oxfordshire and from a Northamptonshire collection. This nail cleaner is of fairly simple design with suspension loop, bulbous body tapering down to a pronged tip for cleaning underneath nails. It would have been one of several small bronze cosmetic tools attached to a single hoop and either carried or attached to and worn on a chain from the waist, in the form of a Chatelain. Totally intact and in good condition, a still functional Roman item with a pleasant light green olive patina, 45mm long x 7mm wide.
