c.3000-2500 B.C. A rare and excellent Neolithic pebble Mace Head found many years agon in Dorset and from a Cornish collection. Fashioned from a large smooth brown coloured quartzite pebble with a large central bi-conical hole painstakingly bored though it from either side of the pebble to allow the pebble to be fixed to a large wooden handle; the mace head would have been both a tribal status symbol as well as a lethal and effective weapon. Totally intact and in excellent condition with lovely smooth surfaces, a very tactile object. A superb example of this rare Neolithic artefact, 100mm long x 64mm wide x 34mm thick.
