Product Description
c.2nd/3rd Century A.D. A rare and excellent Roman bronze "Gladius" Amulet / Pendant found many years back in Yorkshire and from Northamptonshire collection. This well detailed solid bronze amulet is expertly fashioned in the form of a miniature Gladius, a Roman short sword used by Roman Legionaries and these Gladius amulets were either carried or sometimes tied to a neck cord and worn around the neck by Roman soldiers. These amulets served as a protective charm for soldiers in battle and were sometimes awarded to soldiers injured in combat, much like modern military honours. Totally intact and in very nice condition for its age. Of good metal with good surfaces and a pleasant dark green patina, an excellent example of this rare Roman Military amulet, 37mm long x 8mm wide
