Cromerian - Anglian Interglacials c.MIS 21-17, c.866,000 - 674,000 BC. A Rare and extremely early Lower Paleolithic " small flint hand axe from the famous Paleolithic site of Happisburgh, Norfolk (Pronounced "Hazeboro"). [Happisburgh together with Pakefield, Suffolk are just couple of sites on the East Anglian coast that has yielded definitive and scientifically dated proof for the earliest habitation by Prehistoric Man in the entirety of the U.K. Finds at Happisburgh and Pakefield in recent years have now pushed back proven Hominid occupation in the UK by some 200,000-300,000 years to in excess of 800,000 years B.C. and as such Happisburgh and Pakefield are now considered to be two of the most important Prehistoric habitation sites in the U.K.] This nice little hand axe has been well worked from a flint nodule of dark and honey coloured flint and features a clearly defined functional axe / chopping blade with some reworking to further enhance it, some pebble cortex remaining on the main worked face, totally intact and in excellent condition for its great age with a pleasant old Paleolithic colouration and patina, an appealing and rare British flint hand tool from a very notable site, 55mm wide x 63mm deep x 37mm at thickest point
