c.A.D. 1200-1500. A rare and stunning Pre-Colombian Taino Culture polished Jadeite / Nephrite axe head originally found in Hispaniola in the 1950's/60's and from an old Surrey collection, prior to this hailing from a New York "1962 DR" Collection. Expertly fashioned from a most attractive marbled green Jadeite / Nephrite in a Petal shaped form with pointed butt and gently curved blade edge, smoothly polished over its entire surface and a wonderfully tactile piece to hold. A few tiny, inconspicuous knocks to blade edge (not detracting) otherwise totally intact and in super condition with good surface ageing and patination, a lovely and seldom offered item, 115mm long x 46mm wide x 22mm thick.
