c.8th-10th Century A.D. A rare and unusual Viking lead Bearded Axe pendant, excavated in Northern Europe many years back and from a Norfolk collection. Expertly fabricated from a hammered lead sheet and cut to form the Bearded Axe shape with 4 circular punch marks then placed along blade edge on either side, as some form of rudimentary decoration. Small suspension hole punched at top; possibly once on a small suspension loop, now lost but could be mounted onto another loop and worn again if so desired. Totally intact and in very good condition for Ancient lead with a light whitish surface patination, box40mm long x 29mm wide, supplied in display box, a rare and unusual Viking lead pendant
