c.8th / 9th Century A.D. A rare Anglo Saxon carved bone sewing needle found in the early-mid 20th Century on a known Anglo Saxon habitation site in Ipswich, Suffolk and from an old Essex Collection. Clearly carved and shaped to form a gently tapering needle, hole bored in wider grip end to attached yarn, tint chip to very tip of needle otherwise totally intact and in very good condition for ancient bone with nice smooth and sound surfaces.
