c.1600-1200 B.C. A rare Bronze Age, fired clay shallow dish excavated in Southern Germany many years back and from a Scottish collection. Of simplistic form and clearly a handmade vessel in a typical rough quartz / gritty clay composition, fired in a hearth rather than later Kiln fired pottery, which makes these Bronze Age vessels so rare as they seldom survive the ravages of time buried in the Earth. Underside shows evidence of blackening suggesting that this dish had been placed directly on to the flames in use. An old chip from one edge plus a couple of very minor edge knocks otherwise good and intact and a very reasonably priced example of the type. 68mm diameter x 56mm deep.
