SOLD

c.6th Century A.D. A rare Early Anglo Saxon bronze Annular ring brooch found in North Yorkshire many years ago and from a Durham collection. In the form of a flat bronze hoop decorated on the front surface with two concentric rings of punched annulets for decoration, around both the outer and inner edges of the brooch and 4 larger concentric designs engraved at 12, 3, 6 & 9 o'clock. Corroded remains of the original iron hinge for the pin still in situ. Most likely once silvered or gilded but now purely bronze with an attractive shiny dark green patination. Iron pin missing otherwise intact and in very good overall condition, a decent and affordable example of this rare Pagan Saxon brooch, 44mm diameter, hoop 8mm wide.
