c.6th Century A.D. A rare, heavy and robust Early Anglo Saxon pottery dish or shallow bowl excavated in the early 1900's in Ipswich, Suffolk on a known Early Saxon habitation site. This particular vessel exhibits evidence of early recycling as it appears to have been fashioned from the base section of a large hand made coarse ware pottery urn and the edges around then carefully ground and smoothed by hand to create a rounded rim edge. A very rare and intriguing Early Saxon pottery vessel in good overall condition for its great age, c.155mm diameter x 40mm deep
