A rare English Civil War "Sakar" cannonball from the battle of Cropredy Bridge, Nr. Banbury, Oxfordshire.
The Battle of Cropredy Bridge was fought on Saturday 29 June 1644 near Banbury, Oxfordshire during the First English Civil War. In the engagement, Sir William Waller and the Parliamentarian army failed to capture King Charles.
The cannonball measures 80mm in diameter and weighs approximately 2.2kg excluding stand and hails from an old Northern Irish collection. Totally intact and in very good condition with no visible impact damage and has good sound surfaces throughout. A very nice example of a decent sized cannonball from a known English Civil War battle site, comes with an old custom made wooden mount with inscribed brass plaque plus a full 8 page report of the Battle of Cropredy Bridge, a rare and interesting piece of English Civil War memorabilia.
