SOLD
Ptolemaic period c.3rd Century BC. A nicely presented fragment of cartonnage from an Ancient Egyptian anthropoid sarcophagus. Nicely presented in a glass fronted display case, this cartonnage (papyrus and gesso) fragment from the exterior of an Ancient Egyptian anthropoid sarcophagus still features a significant area of original gesso plaster coating together with the original black, umber and ochre painted pigments, once part of the elaborate decoration on the top of the sarcophagus. From an old London collection. A rare and appealing Ancient Egyptian item, cartonnage 90mm wide x 65mm high, display case 158mm wide x 134mm x 20mm. Stand for display case also included.
