Product Description

c.A.D.1500-1600. A rare leather sole from a Tudor Period Childs shoe found in the early 1990's during an excavation at a building site in Wapping, London and from a Kent collection. Nicely shaped and very typically Tudor in form. Of sturdy leather with copius stitch holes around perimeter where it would once have been stitched to the main body of the shoe. Feint impressions of the childs toes in parts from wear. Leather stiff but stable and given a light coat of Microcrystalline wax to seal the surfaces and preserve it. The original sole would have been slightly larger but Ancient leather tends to shrink slightly as it dries out. A rare and unusual Tudor artefact and seldom offered for sale, 134mm long x 47mm wide
