SOLD
c.1st / 2nd Century A.D. A rare segment of Roman terracotta roof tile featuring the impressions of a child's fingerprints. During manufacture these roof tiles would have been laid out in a yard to dry before final firing, as such occasionally children, pets and wild animals would leave their impressions in the soft clay, which when fired preserved the impressions for posterity. Believed to a British find and hails from an old Irish collection. A seldom offered and interesting Roman artefact, Approx.155mm x 108mm x 13mm thick.
