c.5700-4200 B.C. A rare upper-half (c.60%) of a Vinca Culture Early Neolithic period decorated pottery votive figure. [The Vinca Culture were an advanced Early Neolithic race largely inhabiting the Balkans, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Greece; they were renown for producing small pottery anthropomorphic votive statuettes and figures presumably for placement in a temple or place of worship]. This figure is typically and crudely hand modelled from clay and this example features the upper 2/3ds of the figure with simple head with pinched features, eyes and lashes impressed on upper side of head with a finger nail, an elongate neck, two small vestigial arms plus impressed dots representing the breasts and naval, lower section of torso lost in antiquity. Other than the loss to lower torso, the figure is otherwise intact with good sound and stable surfaces. Overall, the figure is in remarkable condition for its very great age. A rare chance to obtain an affordable example of Early Neolithic figurative art for your own collection, measuring 80mm high x 35mm wide x 20mm thick
