Hoxnian Interglacial period (MIS 11-10) c.424,000 to 374,000 years old. A scarce and excellent Lower Paleolithic Pointed unifacial flint hand axe found many years back at the famous Prehistoric site of Hoxne, Suffolk (a site that gave the name to the Hoxnian Interglacial period) and from an old Norfolk collection. Expertly fashioned from a large flake of dark grey / black coloured flint, unifacially worked, with a largely flat underside but well worked on the upper side to form distinct chopping blade edges and a functional point. Pebble cortex still in situ on much of worked side to aide grip in the hand. Intact and in very good condition for its great age with a good old collection patina, an excellent example of this scarce Paleolithic hand tool and from a very notable prehistoric site. 118mm long x 83mm wide x 36mm thick
