c.8th-10th Century A.D. A scarce and unusual Viking silver axe pendant on its original twisted silver wire suspension loop found many years back in Baltic region of Eastern Europe and from a London collection. This unusual Viking artefact would have once been part of a small group adorning a silver cuff bracelet or pectoral necklace (last photo shows a complete necklace complete with axe pendants). Although Axes and their symbolic representations feature throughout Viking folklore, it is possibly that these particular items of jewellery held some ritual or religious significance and may even have been worn during ceremonies. A couple of small knocks to the corners of the pendant (not detracting) otherwise it is totally intact and in very good condition overall, of good metal with nice surfaces. A pleasant and appealing Viking artefact supplied in display box.
