c.2nd/3rd Century A.D. A scarce, heavy and very unusual solid Roman lead votive phallic amulet (For both Fertility & Good Luck) found on a known Roman site near Brentwood, Essex and from an Essex collection. Phallic amulets were both worn, carried or used in a votive capacity, being deposited in either a home shrine, temple or sacred place to ask the Gods for both fertility and good luck. A few minor peripheral knocks otherwise intact, solid and robust with an overall whitish surface patination, a very unusual and intriguing Roman votive item, 58mm long x 24mm deep x 15mm wide at base.
