Product Description

c.200,000 to 100,000 BC. A simplistic Paleolithic Mousterian (Neanderthal) "Levallois Industry" flint core hand axe found many years ago at Overstrand, Near Cromer, North Norfolk and from an old Norfolk collection. Clearly worked from a thick triangulated flake of a pleasant grey and beige coloured flint, in turn struck from the top of a large pre-prepared flint core (i.e.Levallois), smooth underside but worked on upper surface to form the blade edges on either side with a raised medial plateau on the top. Signs of ancient percussive use along blade edge. Intact and in very good overall condition condition with good surface ageing and an old patination. An affordable Early Neanderthal flint hand axe, approx. 95mm long x 75mm wide x 40mm at thickest
