c.4,000 to 3,000 B.C. A small but rare Neolithic Green Jasper votive flaked axe, Tenerian Culture, Sahara Desert Region, Niger, Africa. A well worked and defined little axe, skilfully fabricated from an attractive Green Jasper; elongate tear drop shaped main body, bi-facially worked. The axe is in lovely condition throughout with no damage or signs of use but with a nice old shiny desert patination and smoothing of percussion ridges. The size of the axe and the fact that it was made from green jasper may suggest that this axe was used in a votive or sacred deposition context as an offering to the Gods. A very nice and appealing little Neolithic axe, 67mm long x 28mm wide x 9mm thick.
