c.1300 A.D. A small but attractive Early Medieval lead Spindle Whorl found in London.Of bi-conical form with an embossed zig zag decoration around both the upper and lower half. Large hole through centre for the wooden shaft to which natural woolen fibres would be attached and the whole apparatus then spun to make wollen yarn. Intact and in very nice condition with a good old dark surface ageing and patination, a pleasant example of the type, 18mm diameter x 15mm deep.
